Nice! What focus settings are you using? So far I seem to get best results with single point focus for birds whereas zone works pretty well for car racing and airplanes.

Hi... I am using the center 9 squares zone focus with option 2 (ignore obstacles). Once focus locks it works really well.

Your settings are similar to mine with the X-T2 and 100-400. Here is one of several examples. Please login or register to view links

Very nice shots. As I have an X-T1, would you say I should wait for the X-T3 before I get the 100-400. I am going to get the 7D2 and the 500/4 in the next few months so the 7D1 plus 100-400 will go, and will be replaced with the lightweight Fuji set up, as a walk around. The 500/4 will be on a tripod/gimbal set-up.

I don’t use the 100-400 on my X-T1 because its AF is too slow. You should use the lens with a more recent Fuji body, either the X-H1 or X-T2 for currently available ones or wait for the X-T3.

If I expect a long shoot session, to avoid fatigue, I use my 100-400 on a gimbal on a monopod for quick setup and lighter weight, with the IS switch on, unless shutter speed is faster than 1/500. For BIF I use 1/2000 if possible with IS switch off.

I think people have issues with this lens because they are not used to using lenses this long and haven't got their technique right. I'm no master of wildlife photography, but the T2/XF100-400/1.4TC combo work well for me...

Beautiful, sharp image. I assume that you were on a tripod?

Nope, handheld. Only time I mount this lens to a tripod is for shots of the moon...

But I've now started to use my Swarovski scope for that now...
