I dont understand why you need AF for focus stacking unless you have an automated rig.
    Please can you explain.

With my DSLR system I use a CamRanger which will auto advance the focus based on user selected steps, and it will also drive my Stackshot rail, but I don't have battery power setup for the Stackshot in the field, and not sure I'd want to as currently I carry enough equipment. Having enquired with CamRanger there will be no support for cameras other than Nikon and Canon. Even though I use manual focus with the CamRanger it does require control of the focus motor.

With the upcoming release of Arsenal and its support for Fuji amongst many other brands, it will also focus stack to 1:1, but will also require access to the focus motor to automate the stacks.

I've just read this thread in it's entirety, does the lens extend as it gets closer to 1:1? If this is the case I may wait this out for awhile after it's been released.

i dont think it does. Although I cannot confirm 100% it looks as if everything is done internally. If I am wrong then my desire for this lens will pretty much go away.

That said, Im intrigued about using focus peaking at 1:1. Normally with my Canon 6D/Tamron 90mm set up I just move forward and back and have to pay really close attention to the area of focus. This might allow for a bit more relaxed image taking.

I hope it doesn't either, or if it does, its inside the lens hood. I'm used to 'focus breathing' with the Nikon 105mm macro so for me its not really too much of an issue. Its the physical movement of the lens hood moving in and out which I have a concern as some of the subjects I like to photograph the lens can be hard up to say a tree trunk.

With regards focus peaking, this is one of the reasons I use an iPad tethered to my DSLR in the field, or laptop at home via a CamRanger so I'm looking at a much larger image. I'm hoping to have the same (or better) functionality with Arsenal when its released.

    Thanks. Interesting.

Only lists compatibility with two Fuji cameras (none in the current generation).

The developer has stated many times during the campaign getting hold of cameras to test has been an issue while trying to get Arsenal up and running. He has borrowed an X-T2 from a friend and now the campaign has finished he hopes to get back to it and get it approved. They have indicated that during the early part of 2018 they will test more bodies including additional manufactures and hopefully include a number of them in the supported list.

I have become convinced the 80 mm is an urban legend or simply Fake News. No comment from Fuji speaks volumes.

The only thing that matters: is it still on the roadmap?

Fuji has a pretty good track record. Most don't even publish a roadmap...

    YMMV
