Is this in France? When we visited Bretagne last year, we were shocked to be greeted by many
sights such as this. Here in South Africa our tidal ups and downs are rarely as severe as this
and it's not often one sees long stretches of waterless beach with boats moored in the sand
minus sea. It seemed to be continually 'marée basse' whenever we arrived at some postcard-
pretty harbour town, but we were unable to stop long enough to wait for the tide :(

Yes, it is Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, in Brittany, where my wife and I stayed last week. A beautiful place, but the weather can be quite iffy! After lunch, first pic, the tide had come in quite a lot! Apologies for digressing from the thread.

Not quite the sea but eventually connected to the sea! Regents Canal, Little Venice! But yet more dilapidation.

Well, if that had been taken in Chicago I would say the weights were used to keep the bodies of their political rivals from floating up to the surface. :)

Currently in dry-dock for repairs prior to sailing to Horta, Azores on 15 May.

    From Wiki:

"The Europa is a steel-hulled barque registered in the Netherlands. Originally it was a German lightship, named Senator Brockes and built
in 1911 at the H.C. Stülcken & Sohn shipyard in Hamburg, Germany. Until 1977, it was in use by the German Federal Coast Guard as a
lightship on the river Elbe. A Dutchman bought the vessel (or what was left of her) in 1985 and in 1994 she was fully restored as a barque,
    a three-mast rigged vessel, and retrofitted for special-purpose sail-training.

Europa cruises worldwide and accepts paying voyage crew (trainees) for short or long trip segments, including ocean crossings, Sail
Training Association races, and annual voyages to Antarctica, and between South Georgia, Tristan da Cunha, and Cape Town.
