Brightons Iconic West pier

    For years I have loved this great pier and was gutted when it was hit by a fire, I hope they just leave it now as even though it is a ruin, I think it is beautiful.

    Oh gosh... I just googled it and saw some horrendous photos of the fire (2003)
    I had no idea that this had happened.

    Love your pic - such a symbol of fragility against the forces of nature.

    I like your photo of the West Pier, an amazing building before the fire (I also Googled it)...

    I can't help but think it had to be a constant battle with corrosion, fighting the effects of saltwater on steel for all those years since it was first built...

    Thank you Irene, it was such a shame it burnt down as they were thinking of doing it all back up, but the fire put a stop to that.

    Thank you too, of all the things here in Brighton I always take a photo of this pier.

    Thank you, in the last storm we had the middle part just fell into the sea, next time I go to town I will take a photo of the big gap in the middle.
