Wow. That's good to know. So why waste my time with 3rd party lenses when Fuji fits the bill.

    You hit the nail!
As a former professional (Canon) sportsphotographer, I would have dreamed of a lens like this. A very versatile 200/f2 (=300/f2) especially for evening games under floodlight. In combination with the lowlight capabilities of the X sensor - just a dream. But on top with the TC1,4x you get a 300/f2.8 (=400/f2.8) for soccer and track&field - assuming that the AF does not loose much speed. And even if you need equivalent 600mm f4 - no problem with the TC 2x. Getting all these classic FF focal lentghs and apertures with only one lens, is just phantastic.

Everyone doubting that working with a TC is pro - in the 90s I used my Canon 200/f1.8 even with a TC2x for soccer games and it worked out. And this was in the 90s!
Keep in mind that Fuji is going to develop special designed TC for this beast. I can imagine that these two new TC will be a new generation and a next step.

Everything behind this showcase lens, is getting a feet into the professional market.

Isn’t the focusing speed and frames per second of the gfx somewhat slow for it to be considered a sports camera?

Sorry, got confused. Thought you were talking about the new 250 mm for the gfx.

Think I'll wait for the 200mm F2.8 version to come out instead. Much smaller and lighter on the checkbook :). I really loved my Pentax DA*200mm F2.8. It cost me $650 used. Such a quality piece of glass. But hey if the Pro's need F2.0 then they need F2.0 and more power to them.

Just sat down and realise if Fuji release this lens how useful it will be with a single purchase

    Equivalent to

    300 F2 on its own

    420 F2.8 with 1.4x

    600 F3.5 with 2x

Better don’t get too excited because if Fuji follows this thread to gauge customer
Reaction then the price will surely but sky high

Ok Fuji I hate the idea and I won’t buy one.

    Happy

For me a 200mm f/2 at £6K would be a very expensive but useless ornament, I would love Fuji to bring out a high quality 300mm f/4 with IS; I could use that with the 1.4 converter as an option and the combination with an X-T2 would be formidable for nature and I could finally ditch the DSLR system but at the moment I can’t as Fuji don’t do any long high quality lenses, the existing 100-400 is OK in fact better than other maker’s lenses of a similar range and ratio but nowhere near the quality of a long prime.

Gah. Sorry to those who think otherwise, but I really dislike white lenses, especially big ones! In spite of the price, I would probably spray paint it black, or wrap it in adhesive camo. :D

There's a practical reason for the white paint according to Fuji. The white paint keeps the elements from expanding due to heat.

Because 35mm and APS-C sensors are almost the same size. The difference is enough to make a difference with normalish FL‘s, but with telephotos the difference is almost irrelevant.
It is actually light silver, like sand blasted aluminium. It keeps the properties of large amounts of super exotic glass from changing due to heat. Canon and Sony make white telephotos for the same reason. Nikon telephotos are less high tech and they can still make them black.

I'm trying imaging this lens in black . . . and falling people over this lens, due to a very low visibility.
Anyway, it's good to see Fuji going green . . :D

Fair enough, but I guess I'm glad then that my black "low budget" XF100-400 is low-tech enough to survive a bit of sun without melting down. ;)
